Draft of Objectives for 1 yr certificate Ready for Feedback

As promised at the Electronics Workshop, I am happy to announce the first draft of the objectives for the 1 year certificate which we are currently calling the Air Washington Electronics Technician B certificate.  It has been posted on the website and is ready for your comments, suggestions, feedback, etc.  Craig, Rebecca, and I are truly looking for input, so please let us know what you would like to see.

Recap from the 6/20/2012 Meeting

Thanks to you all for attending the Electronics Curriculum Workshop last week and welcome to our Google site!   If you check out “Workshop Files” you will see both Craig and Dick’s PowerPoint presentations, as well as the updated KSAs from Boeing. 

Through our discussions, it was noted that there are many commonalities between the college programs, however, there is still some work to do to identify the core content of a standardized curriculum that we can all use. There was emphasis placed on the obligation to not just match the needs of our aerospace partners, but the local employers as well.  Olympic College has nearly finished establishing that the one year certificate we offer meets the KSA requirements of Boeing’s Electronics Technician B, as well as the needs of our local employers.  We will crosswalk the learning outcomes for each of our classes that make up our one year certificate and provide them to the group.  Once that is posted, we would encourage each college to review the learning outcomes with their own classes and make any changes or suggestions via this blog.

In our first meeting last March, we identified the learning outcomes for the entry level Wire Assembler position.  Although there may be somewhat limited opportunities for employment as a Wire Assembler, there are still job opportunities available and at the completion of the certificate, students could also test for the MECP, the industry credential for vehicle electronic installation technicians.  We are considering making a slight adjustment to the classes that go into our one quarter certificate, and ensure that the classes they take feed into the one year program.  In this instance, we will be able to count the one quarter completers.  This information will also be available via our site.
